ঢাকার অধিকাংশ দোকানে হিসাব এখনও রাখা হয় একটি লাল খাতায়। এটি ব্যর্থতা নয়। খাতার ব্যাটারি লাগে না, লগ-ইন লাগে না, আর দোকানদার চোখ বন্ধ করেই বলতে পারেন গত মঙ্গলবার কে কত বাকি নিয়েছেন। POS-এ যাওয়ার আগে এই তিনটি গুণ মনে রাখা জরুরি, কারণ সফটওয়্যার যদি এগুলো কেড়ে নেয়, তবে এক মাসের মধ্যেই তিনি খাতায় ফিরে যাবেন।In most Dhaka shops the accounts still live in a red notebook. That is not a failure. The notebook needs no battery and no login, and the shopkeeper can say with eyes closed who took how much credit last Tuesday. These three qualities matter before any move to POS, because if the software takes them away, the shopkeeper is back on paper within a month.

In the notebook, the day is added up at night; in POS, every sale drops stock, raises cash and updates the credit book the moment it happens. Instead of adding at night, the shopkeeper reads one number in the morning. That single change gives back five to eight hours a month.

• স্টক: কী মজুদ আছে, কী শেষ হয়েছে—সাপ্লায়ারকে ফোন করার আগেই জানা যায়।Stock: what is in, what is out, known before the supplier call.
• বাকি: নাম ও তারিখ ধরে, সঙ্গে একটি রিমাইন্ডার।Credit: by name, by date, with a reminder.
• ক্যাশ: দিনের শুরু ও শেষের ব্যবধান, মিলিয়ে দেখা।Cash: the gap between opening and closing, reconciled.

যা বদলায় না তা হলো বিশ্বাস। বাকি দেওয়া হয় মানুষ চিনে, সফটওয়্যার দেখে নয়। তাই ভালো POS-এ বাকির পাতাটি খাতার মতোই থাকে—নাম আগে, সংখ্যা পরে—আর দোকানদার নিজের হাতে লেখার মতো করেই তথ্য দেন। সফটওয়্যার খাতার বিকল্প নয়; এটি কেবল রাতে যোগ করার পরিশ্রমটুকু কমিয়ে দেয়।What does not change is trust. Credit is extended to a person, not to a screen. So in a POS worth using, the credit page still reads like the notebook, name first and figure second, and the shopkeeper enters it much as they would write it. The software does not replace the notebook; it removes the nightly arithmetic.
